When you travel to La Paz you can't miss the great opportunity to experience a whale watching tour since Baja California Sur is the place where Gray Whales birth. Each winter from January until March you can see those amazing mammals mating, birthing and breeding mainly in Magdalena Bay in Puerto Lopez Mateos one of the best places to see them but also in Laguna Ojo de Liebre in Guerrero Negro and Laguna San Ignacio.
Each year thousands of gray whales begin a journey of 7000 miles from Alaska and the western coast of Canada and the United States to the wonderful Sea of Cortez. The journey starts in the beginning of October to arrive the coasts of Baja in December being January the month where most gray whales can be seen and then the best to be witness of these extraordinary marine creatures.
These animals travel in groups of 15 to 20 and it is considered as one of the most wonderful animal's migration. The mammals of the sea measure up to 15 meters long and weighs up to 15 tons. Like other land animals, these playful crustaceans breathe air through a surfacing blowhole and also nurse their young.
